Jordan van der Ven (also known as JORDAN ARTISAN) is a Dutch designer and artist working in the realm of sculptural architectural design and collectible design. He lives and works in Nijmegen. He began as a carpenter and graduated from the St'Joost Academy in Breda in 2005 as a freelance artist.
Jordan van der Ven explores the potential of building materials conventionally hidden under floors, in the walls, or behind tiles. He finds innovative uses for them and creates a new aesthetics, transforming sharp shapes into the rounded ones, dark into light, and metal into something fluid, frozen in motion.
Van der Ven's design method is based on the art as a process concept: he starts from drawing on the metallic reinforcement to create the curves and intersecting lines of the framework, after that he transforms the material using mesh and layers of white cement to create volume and softness. Jordan van der Ven's work is frequently featured in curated exhibitions and it has been recognized at prestigious fairs in Milan, Shanghai, and Amsterdam. He is represented by renowned international galleries such as Mia Karlova Galerie (Amsterdam) and Rossana Orlandi Gallery (Milan).
