SPACE FOUR took part in the public talk “The Object and Its Status”, organized by masters:dom in partnership with ARTDOM.
Where is the boundary between function and statement? When does an object cease to be purely utilitarian and become an artifact? Collectible design, conceptual objects, vintage pieces — the market uses these terms as markers of value, yet their boundaries remain blurred.
Together with representatives of leading galleries and institutions, we explored how collectible and conceptual design are distinguished, how an object's status is formed, and how an idea differs from an object's history of use. We discussed where the line is drawn between a series and a unique piece, where practical function ends and artistic expression begins, and which criteria shape today’s market for objects of cultural and symbolic significance.
Participants in the public talk included:
Daria Talalaeva, Founder of SPACE FOUR Gallery
Yakov Kozhukhov, Head of Collectible Design at 1.618 GALLERY
Olga Egarmina, Founder of Tirazh 1/1 Gallery
Alexandra Falishtynskaya, Founder of the Pole Center for the Development of National Culture and Crafts
